R.B. Warren was born January 7, 1925, and attended schools at
Silverdale and Arkansas City, KS. He received his B.S. in Agriculture
and Animal Science in 1948 at Kansas State University and his M.S.
in Animal Breeding at Oklahoma State University in 1950. He was
Assistant Professor at Michigan State University 1945-1955, came to
the University of Nebraska in 1956 and retired as Professor Emeritus
in December 1990..
R.B. and Doris were married July 1, 1948 and Doris was a busy
homemaker and pharmacist with their family of three boys and two
girls who all graduated from the University of Nebraska. R.B. lost his
lower right arm at 2 years of age.
R.B. has nurtured a long time interest in rodeo. He was an RCA
member in 1946-1948, helped start the collegiate rodeo at Kansas
State University in 1946-1948 and restarted more intently after
retirement in late 1990. He started his Senior Professional Rodeo
career in 1976 at Hyannis and has competed in the NSPRA in 16
states and Canada. He was elected an executive director of the
NSPRA and he has qualified for the finals in calf roping four times
and six times in team roping. One of the greatest highlights of his
career was to receive the 1996 Determination Saddle Award from
many friends in the NSPRA.
