Bill Devereaux was bqrn March 9, 1.933 and unfortunately passed
away from a long term illness on July 22, 1998. Bill was ranch born
and lived on the place all his life. He was a very successful farmer and
rancher and was the third generation on the place. Bill was born with
a rope in one hand and reins in the other. He was a tremendous
horseman and trained barrel horses and calf roping and team roping
horses and loved to trade. He began to ride at the age of three and
was horse back until 1995.
Bill started his rodeo career in 1947 when he was 15 years old. He
joined the RCA in 1954 and his card, numbered 4766 was signed by
Buster Ivory. Bill received his life membership from the PRCA and
was very proud of it. He also belonged to the United Indian Rodeo
Association and the Canadian Indian Rodeo Association. In his
younger days of rodeo, he rode bareback, saddle bronc and bulls. He
was the Indian Champion in both team roping and calf roping. Bill
joined the Old Timers Rodeo Association in Las Vegas, NV in 1979
and belonged to the Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Association, also.
Highlights of the NSPRA was making it to the Finals. He won the
Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Team Roping Championship in 1991 with
his partner, Ervin Watson.
Bill's life was his ranch and rodeo. He was like a diamond in the
rough and if you knew him, you knew he had a heart as big or bigger
than Montana.
