HALL OF FAME: A RECORD OF NSPRA HISTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Wanda Cagliari
Fernley, Nevada
Membership Card #1221
Wanda Cagliari was born December 16, 1935 in Auburn, California
where she grew up on her folks dairy.
She and her twin sister, Wilma, (nobody knows who is the oldest???)
decided to try trick riding after college and became known as the
"Ludwig Twins." After retiring from trick riding, Wanda went on
to train barrel racing and rope horses.
In 1970, Wanda was the Nevada Cowboys Association Barrel
Racing Champion. She held this title for 9 years, as well as winning
the California Cowboys Association Barrel Racing Championship
for 2 years. In 1980, she joined the WPRA and was rookie of the
year. She qualified for the National Finals Rodeo in 1980 and 1981.
She joined the NSPRA in 1991 and won the all around title that year
competing against both men and women and was the first woman to
win this prestigious award. She won the LBR championship that
same year and has dominated both the barrel racing and all around
title in the 50's and now in the 60 and over age group.
She is known as a prankster, pulling jokes whenever she can. It
may be painting your horses tail pink or tying your shoe lace to the
fence while you are sitting on it. She is small in stature, but always
a truly tough competitor with a big heart and a mischievous twinkle
in her eye.
